Corporate responsibility is embedded in all we do
We’re on a mission to make energy cleaner, more secure, and easier to access. By providing the technology to produce affordable green hydrogen and emission-free electricity, we help our customers move towards their net-zero goals while keeping costs manageable.
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do. We focus on cutting emissions in the toughest sectors and work alongside suppliers who are genuinely dedicated to upholding human rights.
Some materials are still tricky to source responsibly, such as cobalt, which we only use in tiny amounts. That is why we’ve launched a research programme to gradually find alternatives, and we make sure none of the materials we use are on the EU Conflict Minerals Regulation list.
We prioritise the well-being of our employees by eliminating hazards and minimising any health and safety related risks at work. We ensure a safe working environment for our employees and partners who visit our premises.
We provide training with our partners to further develop employees’ skills.
We ensure equal opportunities without compromising on competence and work quality. We have zero tolerance for discrimination and maintain a clear equality policy. We provide new job opportunities through our growth.
We seek solutions to reuse technological waste and residues in our production processes and maximise recyclability. We use less raw materials and components, helping to reduce the need for mining new materials. We consume responsibly sourced raw material. We take responsibility for our product after its lifecycle.
We supply one of the most efficient technologies for the production of green hydrogen, allowing customers affordable energy solutions to meet net zero targets. Our fuel cells produce negligible amounts of SOx, NOx, carbon monoxide and volatile organic components. If the fuel cells are run on biogas or H2, CO2 emissions are reduced to zero.
Through the Elcogen Technology Roadmap, we continuously enhance sustainability by developing highly efficient, automated, and energy-saving production processes. Our technology operates at low temperatures using standard ferric materials instead of costly alloys, and it significantly reduces reliance on rare or precious raw materials compared to competing solutions.
We provide clean energy solutions for homes, industries, and grid support through advanced Solid Oxide technology. Our highly efficient SOEC offering enables scalable green hydrogen production. The reversible nature of our technology allows energy storage to balance the fluctuations of renewable sources.
Elcogen supplies the core technology that sits at the heart of energy security and the transition away from fossil fuels. Our products are focused on helping the world to move away from dependence on polluting fuel sources to meet countries’ obligations on emissions targets set out by the Paris Climate Agreement.
Environmental impacts
Elcogen’s fuel cells produce negligible amounts of sulphur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and volatile organic compounds. When powered by natural gas, our fuel cells emit around 50% less CO2 per kW compared to traditional gas-powered combustion boilers, thanks to their much higher electrical efficiency. If powered by hydrogen, CO2 emissions drop to zero. In power generation applications, even when using hydrocarbon fuels, our fuel cells actively filter particulate matter (PM10 and PM2.5) from the air, offering an extra environmental benefit. Elcogen’s fuel cells can also operate as electrolysers. Our SOECs produce green hydrogen using up to 30% less electricity than traditional PEM or alkaline electrolyser systems.
In line with the EU Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), which mandates reporting on sustainability metrics such as Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, we are focused on enhancing the accuracy of our environmental impact tracking and actively reducing our carbon footprint. This includes exploring ways to reuse technological residues and increase recyclability without compromising product quality. As part of the AMPS project, we are also contributing to the development of cost-effective, large-scale Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) production methods by integrating recycled product waste into the manufacturing process, thereby reducing raw material consumption and supporting sustainable, high-volume production.
The fuel cells and stacks produced by Elcogen undergo thorough testing to ensure they are safe and reliable for our customers. Our product development, manufacturing, and sales processes are fully aligned with the ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and ISO 45001:2018 standards in both Estonia and Finland.
Contributing to society
Integrity is central to our culture, supported by a Whistleblowing Policy and a zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption. We ensure equal opportunities through inclusive policies and recruitment. Our People & Culture team supports staff welfare, training, and community engagement, and maintains active partnerships with universities and other external communities, forging strong links between education, innovation, and industry.
Our principles
Our global team brings deep expertise in the energy sector, with strong capabilities in fuel cell technology, electrochemistry, product design, and production. To execute Elcogen’s strategic direction, we are committed to the principles embedded in our Integrated Management System, which guides our operations, ensures compliance, and drives continuous improvement across all aspects of our business.
Oversight of ESG and sustainability
Our Audit, Risk and Sustainability Committee has responsibility for oversight of all ESG and sustainability-related matters and for reporting to the Board. At Elcogen, we monitor the ESG targets described above through a single lens:
