Elcogen, the European manufacturer of clean energy technology that delivers affordable green hydrogen and emission-free electricity, is pleased to announce the delivery of our elcoStack® technology to the EU funded project, areNHa (grant agreement No 862482).
Elcogen’s solid oxide stack technology offers an efficient solution for green hydrogen production to the project, as an essential part of the green ammonia synthesis process. Elcogen is the world’s most advanced manufacturer of ceramic electrode-supported, low temperature solid oxide cells and stacks, delivering market-leading electrical efficiency.
The ARENHA Project
ARENHA, which stands for “Advanced Materials and Reactors for Energy Storage Through Ammonia”, is a European project seeking to develop, integrate and demonstrate key material solutions that enable the use of ammonia for flexible, safe, and profitable energy storage as well as for utilisation as fuel. ARENHA demonstrates the practicality of ammonia as a dispatchable form of large-scale energy storage, enabling the integration of renewable energy across Europe, as well as creating a door to the global distribution of green energy.
The objectives of ARENHA will be tackled by 11 organisations across 7 countries (Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, France, United Kingdom, and Spain) to form a new and complete ammonia supply chain from European sources.
This project will develop a green hydrogen generator for the production of ammonia that demonstrates the advantage of ammonia use as a key constitute of energy storage and transportation as well as a carbon free synthetic fuel for combustion engines and direct ammonia fuel cells.
A demonstration of the ammonia production system will be available in 2024.
Enn Õunpuu, CEO of Elcogen Group: “I am delighted with the recent delivery of our Solid Oxide cell and stack technology to EU financed ARENHA project. Ammonia’s versatility enables it to be a significant form of large-scale energy storage, as well as a fuel for combustion engines, requires an efficient production method to ensure the affordability of green energy. Our involvement in the project significantly provides that whilst also demonstrates Elcogen’s ability to provide the world’s most efficient solution to green hydrogen production which will also enable the EU to meet its net-zero targets with affordable green energy. This is an exciting time for the Company as it continues to expand through our world leading research and development that enables the production of green hydrogen for a greener future.”
About Elcogen
Founded in 2001, Elcogen is a manufacturer of clean energy technology that delivers affordable green hydrogen and emission-free electricity. We are a European business with a proud Estonian heritage and a global customer network delivering flexible core solid oxide technology. Elcogen has its registered office in the UK, and manufacturing facilities in Estonia and Finland that have served 160 customers in 30 countries.
Elcogen develops and supplies the technology that sits at the heart of energy security and transition away from fossil fuels. We are focused on driving net-zero ambitions forward with a core, reversible technology that converts fuel sources into emission-free energy and emission-free energy into green hydrogen. Our solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyser cell (SOEC) technology offers an efficient solution to green hydrogen production, reducing commercial costs so customers can deliver affordable energy solutions to meet net-zero targets.
About ARENHA
areNHa (Advanced materials and Reactors for ENergy storage tHrough Ammonia) is a European project with global impact seeking to develop, integrate and demonstrate key material solutions enabling the use of ammonia for flexible, safe, and profitable storage and utilization of energy. Ammonia is an excellent energy carrier due to its high energy density, carbon-free composition, industrial know-how and relative ease of storage. ARENHA demonstrates the feasibility of ammonia as a dispatchable form of large-scale energy storage, enabling the integration of renewable electricity in Europe and creating global green energy corridors for Europe energy import diversification.
